and the winner is …

Several months back, I put out a call for suggestions on renaming my business. And so many of you responded with great ideas! I am now pleased to announce that none of you, and therefore all of you, won the contest, as I decided to take the advice of a complete stranger. You see, Rick and I were at brunch one day when we happened to run into a woman who sells antique toys on Ebay. She suggested that I use a trade name based on my name, and thus the new website for Scully Sound was born. Much thanks is owed to Rick for his design and putting up with my seemingly-endless nitpicking.

In addition, I want to thank everyone who submitted suggestions; there were some really awesome ones and many of them would have worked well. I went with the suggestion of the name simply because it won’t have to be changed depending on my geography.

Just in time for the world premiere of the website, I got to listen to Micah Blue Smaldone and the Kamikaze Hearts at the Langdon Street Cafe in Montpelier. It was a great show. Micah’s singing and playing style evoked old-timey blues of the 1930’s, while the Hearts pumped out one catchy roots-rock tune after another. I’d love to work with these artists, or at least hear them live again, soon.

  1. I like the new name. Good choice.

I’d love to hear what you could do for capturing The Kamikaze Hearts’ live sound. I loved their show but was disappointed by the sound of their album. Everything sounded thin and washed-out. It definitely lacked the power of their live show.

It was nice to finally meet you guys in person. I hope to see you around again before the big move.

  2. Hey, good to meet you too, and thanks! I should send out some consolation magnets or something, haha.

I listened to the album that I bought at the show and it sounded OK to me, but then again I think it was recorded in their kitchen so recording in a performance space would probably yield a better result. I noticed the washed-out sound on the radio recordings, which is the result of the group being spread out around one little mic and some very dead room acoustics. Langdon surprised me with the good sound, quite frankly, as I’d heard another group there back in November when the PA (and therefore the band) sounded like ass. Glad to hear that the venue *can* sound good with the right setup.

  3. Scully Sound is simple and effective. Sometimes too much effort is put into a zingy name, and it feels forced or market researched within an inch of its life. And I like the website and greatly enjoyed reading your bio. I feel like I was a small part of that time, sniff, sniff! Congrats on your business name and site, ma petite entrepreneuse!
