Our Least Favourite Time of the Year …

End of summer? No. Beginning of autumn? Nope.

Bug season. More specifically, cricket season.

I am sure many of you are thinking “What the heck is cricket season, you mad freak?” Well, cricket season is that time of year when crickets who live outside start to wiggle their way inside. Once inside, they proceed to rub their wings together at the most inopportune times—such as when you are trying to sleep!

Last night we were taunted by one particularly loud bugger who was well protected by the radiator. After about 10 minutes of trying to find him we gave up and dragged our cranky asses to the futon, defeated and exhausted.

It is hard to blame the stupid little insects though. Apparently they are able to tune themselves out!

Wish we could the same.

However, since we can’t, we are going to make the cricket a little cocktail.

Ahh, that’s why you have embrace your ally, the hungry hungry spider…

I’m still trying to get rid of my ants. They’ve gotten into both my hamster’s and snake’s cages.

Believe me, Pete, we have plenty of spiders. Once we get those windows installed in the basement, we should be a little more bug-tight though.

The insects around our house have gotten some help getting inside: The other night, our cat Simon caught a grasshopper on our deck and carried it inside in his mouth, the same way I’ve seen other cats carrying mice and chipmunks. He put it down on the carpet and proceeded to play with it. It was funny.

Now that we have gotten replacement windows and a new door for the basement we are probably ready to fog bomb the place.

FOG BOMB! Yes, and then I get to move down into the cricket’s den and attempt to set up office. We’ll keep you updated on how that’s going, or how many *real* computer bugs I’ll have…. ;)
